Good for the Gong

About

Good for the Gong is an independent group of Illawarra locals who care deeply about climate change, the environment and the future of our community.

The Illawarra has been selected as a site for offshore wind development because it already has key infrastructure in place to support the industry. This includes a deep water port, existing industrial facilities, and major energy users such as the steelworks. The region also benefits from a consistent and reliable wind resource, making it well-suited for offshore wind generation.

The proposed 2.9 GW offshore wind zone could generate up to 12 TWh per year, more than double the amount required to meet the Illawarra’s projected energy demand, with enough left over to support industrial decarbonisation or green hydrogen production.
